Lori Schwendemann, SAMA, County Assessor
Lisa Strand, CMAS, Assessment Technician
Office Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday
The Assessor’s Office directs, plans, and supervises the appraisal and recording of all property assessments in Lac qui Parle County as prescribed by Minnesota Statutes and the directives of the Commissioner of Revenue in order to provide an equitable and efficient system of property appraisal for tax purposes.
The law specifically requires that every fifth year an appraiser will view the property and record property characteristics that would affect the market value of your property such as age, size, condition, basement finish, etc. Your property is compared with actual sales that have occurred in the market place. The market value placed on it by our office should be 90 to 105% of what your property should sell for if placed on the open market.
An assessment notice is mailed in the spring to each property owner. This form will state the property’s estimated market value that was determined on January 2nd of the current year and the classification of the property (i.e. residential, commercial, agricultural, etc.). It will also give you information for appealing the estimated market value or the classification if you feel and error has been made on your property record. The figures on this notice will be used to calculate the taxes payable in the following year.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office.
