SERVICES PROVIDED
Social Services include services to children & families, child care subsidies, services to the elderly, licensing, court related services and services to disability groups (mental, health, chemical dependency and developmental disabilities).
Financial Assistance programs provide income in the form of cash grants to families or individuals on such programs as MFIP (Minnesota Family Investment Program, formerly AFDC), General Assistance (GA), Group Residential Housing (GRH), and Minnesota Supplemental Assistance (MSA). The Food Support program (FS) provides clients the ability to purchase food items and the ability to receive training to secure employment through FSET (Food Support Employment & Training).
For the majority of county clients, health care services are now covered under a capitated managed care plan PMAP (Pre-paid Medical Assistance). Through PMAP, clients are enrolled with health plans, which provide a network of approved vendors. Each client is assigned to a primary care clinic (PCC) for their health care, and the PCC can refer them to other providers, if needed, for specialty services. Medical transportation is provided to PMAP clients through UCare Health Ride or Blue Plus Blue Ride systems when clients do not have their own forms of transportation. The county contracts with the Prairie Five RIDES program for all medical transportation covered by the state MA program. Expenses of meals and lodging for medical appointments are still coordinated and approved by the county financial workers.
Child Support collections are also handled by this agency for clients on MFIP, Medical Assistance, or Child Care Assistance, as well as for non-public assistance clients.
