HOLIDAY LIGHTS COLLECTION With the holiday season officially upon us, the green Holiday Lights Recycling bins have reappeared for the collection of old, broken, or unused holiday lights, as well as all types of cords, including extension, telephone, appliance, and computer cords. As decorations go up and come down, instead of throwing those old lights and cords away, look for and use the green Holiday Lights Recycling bins located throughout Madison and Dawson.
Holiday Lights collection bins can be found at both the elementary and high schools in Madison & Dawson, both Madison and Dawson City Halls, the Lac qui Parle County Courthouse and Annex, Hardware Hank, Madison Mercantile, NAPA, and Jubilee Foods in Madison, as well as Al’s Mercantile and Tim’s Food Pride in Dawson.
The Recycle Your Holidays program is funded by the Select Committee on Recycling and the Environment (SCORE) grant program, and promoted locally by the Lac qui Parle County Environmental Office. All recycled lights and cords collected in Lac qui Parle County are brought to and benefit the Canby Developmental Achievement Center. The Holiday Lights program ends January 30th.
If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact the Lac qui Parle County Environmental Office at 320-598-3132.
PESTICIDE CONTAINER COLLECTION
Lac qui Parle County farmers, it’s time for the Fall Pesticide Container Collection. Bring your empty containers to the fertilizer plant where they were purchased, or one of the following participating locations: Dove Fertilizer and Fieldcrest Fertilizer in Madison, the Lac qui Parle Co-Op Fertilizer Plant in Dawson, or the Co-Op elevator in Bellingham by August 25th.
Empty plastic pesticide container recycling guidelines state that they must be triple-rinsed or pressure-rinsed and free of all pesticides, with the labels and caps removed. Containers must be under 55 gallons, and no mini-bulk containers are accepted as part of this collection. Before dropping them off, the pesticide containers must be strung together WITH STRING ONLY – NO WIRE WILL BE ACCEPTED!! If containers are strung together with wire, they will be REJECTED, and string is available at all plants.
This last pick-up of the year will take place on Monday, August 25th; however, you can continue to drop them off throughout the summer.
Please remember that you can ONLY USE STRING, NOT WIRE, to string them together. Any containers strung together with WIRE WILL BE REJECTED, and string is available at all locations.
Thank you for caring for the environment! For additional information or questions concerning this August 25th Pesticide Container Collection, please call the Lac qui Parle County Environmental Office at 320-598-3132.
